Our Mission

Our mission is to guide individuals through a process of self-awareness, responsibility, and behavioral change by offering accessible, structured, and supportive intervention programs approved by the courts.

Heart of the Piedmont Purpose, Philosophy, and Structure

Heart of the Piedmont Support believes that ending violence against women, men, and children requires connection with organizations and individuals to create a clear vision and collective voice for social and systemic change. Heart of the Piedmont's vision is to support and strengthen North Carolina's response to domestic violence through training, public awareness, technical assistance, and to promote social change through the implementation of state policy.

Carllet McDonald, LCSW-A  

Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a concentration in Social Welfare from Winston-Salem State University and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Walden University. She currently serves as Chair of the Nominating Committee on the Board of Directors for United Health Center, where she contributes her expertise in nonprofit governance and strategic planning. With a longstanding commitment to community service, Carllet has volunteered extensively, including her role as a lay therapist with Stop Child Abuse Now, where she supported families at risk of child abuse and domestic violence. Her work involved providing crisis intervention services to individuals affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and child maltreatment, advocating for survivors within the criminal justice system, and connecting them with essential community resources. Carllet is also the Co-Founder of Heart of the Piedmont, LLC, an agency dedicated to offering comprehensive domestic violence services to individuals and families across the community.

Sylvester Reed, Jr. 

With over a decade of experience serving youth through the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, Sylvester M. Reed Jr. is a dedicated advocate for community engagement and empowerment. His diverse background includes more than 11 years in pastoral leadership, over 7 years working within the school system, and ongoing advocacy for survivors of domestic violence.
Sylvester adopts a holistic approach to leadership, mentorship, and support—meeting individuals where they are and helping them grow through every stage of life. He has co-developed and co-facilitated the Strong Fathers program in Forsyth County, funded by the North Carolina Division of Family Services, and has led multiple teen groups focused on personal development, emotional wellness, and life skills.

Sylvester remains deeply committed to fostering positive change and providing meaningful guidance to individuals and communities alike.
